Lyxumia® is a disposable injector pen, intended to help people with type 2 diabetes. Each pen provides fourteen doses of medicine, available in two different dose strengths, and intended to be delivered daily by self-injection.
The device prioritises safety, usability, comfort and reassurance; which are of critical importance to many users for whom Lyxumia® will be their first experience of self-injection.
The Lyxumia® pen is easy to use, with a pull-push operation which means there is no risk of selecting or delivering the wrong dose. Feedback is provided by tactile and audible clicks which indicate when the mechanism is correctly set, and when the dose is delivered. The innovative mechanism multiplies the force applied by the user, making doses smooth and easy to deliver. Comprising just nine parts, the device was developed for high-speed automated manufacture and assembly.
The external design was carefully developed to help re-assure patients using Lyxumia®. Distinctive grip features, colours and graphics are applied to help guide patients during use and to enhance product differentiation. This design was carefully developed in conjunction with the packaging and instructions, seeking to optimise usability and inclusivity.
