Hitachi-Alstom JV wins HS2 rolling stock contract
We are delighted to congratulate Hitachi-Alstom JV on being awarded the £1.97bn contract by HS2 Ltd to design, build and maintain a fleet of 54 high speed trains.
The new fully electric trains will be capable of speeds up to 225mph and will be fully compatible with the existing UK rail network, as well as running on the dedicated HS2 line. The first train is expected to be available for testing and commissioning from 2027, and should enter passenger service between 2029 and 2033.
The interior layout will be developed through a two and a half year design process, involving collaboration with HS2 Ltd, the Department for Transport and the West Coast Partnership Development (WCPD), who will be the operator of these trains.
DCA has worked closely with Hitachi Rail on a wide range of projects since 2012 in a relationship that began with our design and development of the passenger, driver and crew interiors for the Class 800/801 trains, including full size mock up build and human factors support. We hope that we are able to bring our unique skillset and experience to bear in the development of these new and exciting rolling stock interiors.
