DCA to speak on Inclusive Design at Paris Packaging Week

The session titled “Diversity beyond skin tone - the future of Inclusive Design” aims to consider the role of inclusive design within the cosmetics and beauty industry.

The cosmetic sector has been making great strides in recent years to address the issue of Diversity and Inclusivity. However, many brands tend to concentrate their efforts on catering for skin tone alone. Design for diversity is a philosophy that encourages us to consider how a broad range of factors (including size, shape, age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, education levels, income, spoken languages, culture & customs, and even diets) influence the way we interact with the world and the products and services that inhabit it.

There is an obvious and growing consumer demand in this area, encouraging global brands to offer solutions in order to remain relevant. Although the ethical case for inclusive design is easy to understand, it’s not that easy to navigate. DCA’s Human factors specialist, Dr. Dan Jenkins, will kick off the session by presenting a new idea on the concept of ‘Design for diversity’ before opening up the discussion to a panel debate with leading experts in the cosmetics sector to consider what is currently being done and where we are going next.

The panel will include senior representatives from DCA, Estee Lauder, and Fenty Beauty (Kendo Brands).
