DCA attend Your Life 'Fast Track Your Future' Event at the Velodrome
DCA had the fantastic opportunity to be a part of London Tech Week for those considering their career path at the Olympic Velodrome in London. The event was kindly organised by Education and Employers on behalf of the Your Life Campaign. Over 400 students aged 14-16 attended from London schools and the surrounding area and over 50 employers came together to represent industries that require Maths and Physics. Notable business appearances included the likes of BAE Systems, Brompton, Credit Suisse, Google, Pentland - Speedo, Cambridge University Eco Racing to name a few.
The event included guest appearances of Youtube Vloggers twins Niki and Sammy Albon and World, European and Commonwealth Champion gymnast and Olympic medallist Beth Tweddle who presented the Formula 100 competition award of the best short video of ‘what you would event and why’. Students were in small groups and taken around to each stand every 8 minutes followed by a live bike race and an instagram competition.
When encouraging young people to pursue any career, inspiration is as important as opportunity. We highlighted the power of product design and development and how it can impact people’s lives for the better while showing how exciting and rewarding a career path in design and engineering can be.
We hope our efforts encourage future generations to consider a career in design and engineering and help curb falling behind on STEM skills and the predicted 25,000 shortfall we face each year in HND/C and degree qualified engineers according to the Design & Technology Association.
