Creating synergy between digital and physical
We have been designing human-machine interfaces for over sixty years for medical, commercial, consumer and transport products and systems. Initially our user interface (UI) work had a more physical nature before moving to the ‘interaction design’ of more digital and graphical (GUI) interfaces. We now specialise in designing UI that transcends traditional limitations. Our multidisciplinary approach creates compelling designs for products and services that exist across the spectrum of the physical and digital world, delivering seamless and meaningful complete system experiences to users. We believe that new and exciting opportunities can be found when a user experience (UX) or user interface (UI) crosses the boundaries between multiple senses, engaging the user on multiple levels.
App development process
Built on extensive experience, DCA has developed a workflow approach to undertake app development for our clients. Our bespoke process can be tailored and refined to the particular requirements of any specific project, it also aims to clarify the scope of the development work from the outset by capturing the overall operating landscape, compliance and regulation requirements and functionality. First and foremost the workflow approach allows us to define and manage the app development through a series of agreed gateways.
As the process moves from low-fidelity prototypes to the first release of fully functioning apps, we utilise co-collaboration software so that all relevant stakeholder groups are involved in the development and can have their input throughout the journey.
Natural and inclusive UI
In any scenario, when we design the interface between a human and a machine, our aim is to design as natural and inclusive an interface as possible. To create an interface that supports the tasks and information needed but is otherwise unobtrusive and effectively invisible, and continues to be natural and intuitive as the user learns and undertakes increasingly complex interactions. We achieve this by integrating our Human Factors and Usability experts within development teams throughout the design process, adopting subject-specific regulations and guidance when required.
We are passionate about inclusivity and aim to design for the widest spectrum of sensory, cognitive, and physical capabilities possible as appropriate to the target user population profiles. We work with clients to ensure that we design with diversity in mind. Ensuring that we consider how aspects such as age, gender, ethnicity, and culture impact different people’s abilities and desires when interacting with the products and services that we help to design.
