The ever-increasing desire to add connectivity to products opens the door to a range of opportunities for product enhancement but with this comes the potential for cyber attack. We aim to provide excellent connectivity solutions while managing the risks associated with inviting the outside world in.

Understanding how smart devices, wearables, home systems and industrial automation can interact productively – and securely – with each other and their users is the key to making a rational and realistic choice when looking at how to add connectivity to your products, systems and services. Our expertise in resolving the often contradictory challenges of user experience, data security, battery life, cost and mechanical robustness allows us to design highly novel and innovative connected products for our clients.

Managing the cyber risks associated with connected products

Internet of Things

We have extensive experience of working with wireless protocols and Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), NFC, MQTT and LoRaWAN. Each has its own benefits and quirks, and we can help identify the best option for you in terms of robustness, compliance and usability.

We pride ourselves in cutting through the hype and adding connectivity to products only in ways that are genuinely useful and beneficial for your users. With this focus, we can integrate smart functionality into your product without adding unnecessary cost or complexity.

Cybersecurity

Balancing the contradictory requirements of cybersecurity and intuitive user experiences is difficult. Our expertise and experience mean that we can select the right approach to design products that are easy to use and protected from the inherent dangers of transmitting sensitive data.

We consider cybersecurity as part of our built-in risk management process. We strive to identify potential attack vectors and vulnerable data early in the project so we can build in mitigations from the start rather than adding protection at the end.

Apps and infrastructure

For many new product offerings, interaction with the end user will be through an Android or iOS App or through a web-based, cloud hosted dashboard.

Working closely with our user experience and human factors team we can create Proof of Concept (PoC) apps and websites in parallel with the embedded software, offering an optimised experience across all the platforms you need to support. We can then provide advice on taking these through to fully supported production systems.
